My musical journey began when I was about 6 years old with a small, red, toy keyboard. After learning some of the songs out of the booklet it came with, I asked for lessons and began studying with my teacher, Virginia Taylor. I progressed quickly through the RCM grades, taking exams each year while also competing and winning awards in festivals, and performing in ORMTA events and recitals. In high school, I took a break from piano and taught myself how to play guitar and bass, while playing flute in music class and band.
I attended the University of Toronto for a short while, then moved on to York University in the Fine Arts, Visual Arts program for a year before enrolling at Metalworks Institute where I earned an Audio Production and Engineering Diploma. Around this time, I also went back to piano lessons and continued my studies. While working, marrying, moving to Newmarket and starting family, I completed the requirements for RCM’s Elementary and Intermediate Piano Pedagogy certificates, joined the Ontario Registered Music Teachers’ Association, and began teaching from home in 2012.
Currently, I am ORMTA’s Communications Coordinator and responsible for managing projects that require technical support, including managing their website and social media accounts, editing Notes Magazine, video recording Provincial Competitions, and much more. In 2026, I completed the Piano Technician Academy’s Piano Tuning and Repair Course and hope to learn more about the inner workings of the piano and continue to hone my piano tuning skills.
I enjoy teaching piano online or in-person, working with students of all ages and abilities. Lessons are tailored to the student’s preferences and learning styles and we work on the fundamentals while also enjoying repertoire from rock, pop, classical, movie, or video game genres. I also include a variety of fun computer, board, or card games that reinforce theory concepts for younger students. Students perform in two in-person recitals and one video recital each year and some students also participate, and do very well, in RCM exams.
In my spare time I enjoy drawing (some of my work can be viewed on Facebook or Instagram) and playing board games or video games with my family.
